Idahosa lauds Buhari’s appointment of Oba Ewuare II as NOUN Chancellor

According to Vanguard, Dennis Idahosa, a member of Congress from O Federal Constituency, has praised the selection of Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo II, the Oba of Benin, as the next chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The nomination of Oba Ewuare II, the monarch of Benin, as the NOUN’s Chancellor, according to Hon. Dennis Idahosa (APC-Edo), has created fresh opportunities for the institution’s expansion.

Idahosa, the head of the House Committee on Legislative Compliance, issued a news release to Benin City’s media. 

claimed that the appointment came at a crucial time for the distance learning institution, which was in desperate need of a turnaround to become one of the best on the continent and, in fact, the entire planet.

According to Idahosa, the NOUN appears to have faced a variety of difficulties but has managed to close the gap with Nigeria’s traditional university system.

I can’t express my gratitude to the President enough for this appointment, he remarked, because it was a success in fitting a square peg into a square hole.

“At this crucial time when the demand for quality education, especially at the tertiary level, is in high demand, Oba of Benin’s wealth of experience will count,”

“The need for university education, particularly among working Nigerians who want an education, was what prompted the establishment of NOUN. The university has made significant strides toward closing the gap between itself and traditional universities, but more must be done for NOUN to function at the level for which it was founded.

The appointment of our respected Oba is crucial in this situation. It will be helpful to have his understanding of what is available in different climates and his background with the Nigerian university system.

I can only make a request to the NOUN management team, who have also been working hard to advance the institution, to collaborate and work with the Monarch for the benefit of everybody.

The appointment of Oba Ewuare II as Chancellor of NOUN was made public by the federal government last week.

When Prof. Olufemi Peters, the university’s vice-chancellor, and other members of the management staff paid the oba a courtesy call at the palace in Benin City, they informed him of the appointment.

During the visit, Prof. Olufemi provided information about the school’s workforce plan and told the Oba that his appointment as chancellor would greatly boost the University’s prospects.

The Monarch replied that he accepted the role and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing him.

Oba Ewuare II pledged to use his vast expertise in the performance of his duties and to use the knowledge he gained from his diplomatic travels to enhance teaching and learning at the university with the help of the management team.
