The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reaffirmed the media’s critical role as a strategic partner in Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight, stressing that credible journalism remains indispensable to transparency and accountability in governance.
The declaration was made in a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, at the 2025 Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting of the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria, held recently in Abuja.
Speaking through the Commission’s Spokesperson and Head of Media and Public Communications, Mr. John Okor Odey, the Chairman said the ICPC under his leadership had continued to strengthen its engagement with the media as a key ally in exposing corruption and promoting integrity.
“The media remains a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture and credible journalism is fundamental to ensuring transparency, public enlightenment and accountability in governance,” Aliyu said.
The high-level conference attracted prominent national figures, including the Vice-President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, GCON, who served as Chairman of the occasion. He described the media as the backbone of democratic stability and urged collective efforts to safeguard democracy.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, described the conference theme as timely and called for responsible journalism and continuous engagement between government and the media.
Earlier, President of IPI Nigeria, Musikilu Mojeed, expressed concern over the safety and welfare of journalists, while a representative of the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Dr. Mrs. Bolatito Olufe, stressed professionalism and national interest in journalism practice.
The ICPC reiterated its commitment to sustaining its partnership with the media.
