Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, has urged Nigerians and members of the 10th National Assembly not to evaluate him on the basis of his performance as a Niger Delta minister. In an interview with journalists following a meeting in Abuja, Senator Akpabio stated that he would prefer to be evaluated only on the basis of his accomplishments as the governor of the state of Akwa Ibom and as an eight-year commissioner.

Speaking about his chances of becoming the next Senate President, Senator Akpabio expressed his confidence in achieving his objective. He reaffirmed that talks with other senators-elect from the APC and the opposition parties are still ongoing.

I do know that I have not changed in any way. “God has given me the chance to be an uncommon transformer everywhere I go,” he said. I don’t want to be perceived as a Niger Delta minister, which is a troubled region, as everyone knows. But I want to be assessed based on my 36-year career as a lawyer, my six-year tenure as a commissioner, and my eight-year tenure as governor.
