Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has said that it is too soon to confirm if Kylian Mbappé will start against Borussia Dortmund.
Recall that both teams are set to battle it out today for a spot in the Club World Cup semi-final.
Speaking to the press, Alonso revealed that despite featuring for some minutes in the last game, the French forward is still recovering from gastroenteritis.
According to the Spanish manager, Mbappe is getting better as the days roll by, so the decision is now up to him to trust Kylian’s fitness enough to name him in his starting XI.
“He’s getting better. He’s been improving over the last three days. Tomorrow morning we will be deciding if he will be part of the initial 11.
“I think (Garcia and Mbappé) could complement each other and if it’s something that is required, it’s not something I’m going to turn a blind eye to,” he said.
The manager further noted that BvB will be a very tricky team to face tonight because they have lots of talented players.
Alonso maintained that it would be a tight game for both teams, and his players must be ready to give everything to secure the win.
He concluded by hailing Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac for a good job thus far at the German club.
“Dortmund is a very good team. As soon as (coach Niko Kovac) was at the helm, they were growing and developing and on the rise. We are facing a tough opponent… It’s gonna be tight tomorrow.”
