A young man named Owate Bode reportedly took the life of his mother in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State after she declined to give him N20,000.
According to reports, On Saturday, May 13, 2023, Bode had requested money from his mother to attend a funeral in the community but was not satisfied with the N10,000 she gave him, claiming that she had withdrawn N20,000 from his account.
In a fit of rage, he picked up a hoe and struck his mother on the head, causing her to fall into a pool of blood and passed away instantly.
The community youths apprehended the suspect and turned him over to the police, while the deceased’s remains were deposited at a morgue in the area.
During interrogation, Bode expressed no remorse for his actions and claimed to be mentally unstable. He said he decided to “finish” his mother because she insulted him and refused to give him his money, and that he was tired of living and wanted to die.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesperson for the state Police Command, confirmed that the suspect is in police custody.
