Gov Adeleke puts smiles on Osun pupils’ faces with free learning materials

Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials to public schools across Osun State.

The move, according to the government, is aimed at strengthening education delivery and ensuring that pupils no longer face the burden of carrying chairs from home.

Speaking at the launch held at the SUBEB Conference Hall, Abeere, the governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, reaffirmed education as the top priority of his administration.

He explained that the government had cleared counterpart funding arrears from 2019 to 2024 and invested heavily in classrooms and school furniture.

We have constructed and refurbished over 400 classrooms in 139 schools and supplied more than 12,500 sets of furniture for pupils, students, and teachers,” Adeleke said, stressing that his government would continue to invest in raising learning standards.

New interventions announced

Governor Adeleke further outlined key interventions, including the provision of ICT materials, solar systems, and over 1,000 tablets for school monitoring. He said the government had also supported school sports, agricultural training, and teacher welfare, alongside implementing the new minimum wage.

He disclosed that the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Action Plan is already underway, featuring the construction of 333 new classrooms, perimeter fencing, boreholes, toilets, and ICT facilities. Monitoring vehicles, motorcycles, and additional furniture for schools are also part of the rollout.

Today’s flag-off marks the distribution of new instructional materials, including exercise books, markers, textbooks in core subjects, and over 12,000 sets of furniture. With this, the burden of pupils carrying chairs from home is now history,” the governor affirmed.

Support from SUBEB

In his remarks, the SUBEB Chairman, Mr Fadipe, confirmed that vehicles and motorcycles would also be distributed across local governments to ensure effective monitoring of schools. He explained that the materials provided would go a long way in improving supervision and administration.

Among the items listed for distribution are computer sets, tablets, solar equipment, mini buses, motorcycles, sports equipment, science kits, and library resources. Fadipe said these were carefully procured to enhance teaching, learning, and overall school administration.

He appealed to teachers across Osun State to make judicious use of the items and continue to support the present administration in its efforts to transform education.
