Don applauds President Tinubu, for declaring Security Emergency

Prof, Damian Opata, a Professor of English and Literary Studies University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has applauded President Bola Tinubu for declaring Security Emergency in the country, which he he described as a welcome development and right step in the right direction.

It would be recalled that, President Tinubu recently declared a security emergency and ordered the army and the police to recruit more personnel.

The President also told the National Assembly to begin the process of reviewing the laws so as to allow states willing to establish State Police to do so.

Opata who retired from UNN and is currently the National interim Chairman of President Tinubu South East Movement for 2027, a support group made the commendation over the weekend.

While speaking with newsmen shortly after chairing an event in Nsukka organised by Progressive Estwhile Ward Executives (PEWE) Enugu State that honoured Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Chief Chinedu Asogwa, Chairman Nsukka Local Government Council for their superlative performances so far.

Opata said the security emergency and recent appointment of Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.) as the new Minister of Defence will go a long way in addressing challenges.

“I commend President Tinubu for declaring Security Emergency as well as appointing Gen.Musa as the new Minister of Defence, these decisions will go a long way in addressing security challenges in the country,” he said

The interim National Chairman noted that, the present administration has performed very well as some of its hard choice decisions which past governments lacked political will to take were now impacting positively on the economy.

“The removal of fuel subsidy, unification of exchange of naria, new revenue formula, gradual restructuring of the country, adequate funding of agriculture among others are now stimulating, repositioning as well as ensuring rapid economic growth.

“Because of good policies of this administration prices of food items in market have reduced seriously especially rice, beans, corn, yam among others.

“This is the first time in the history of the country when Christmas is around the corner, prices of food items especially rice instead of Increasing is reducing daily,”he said.

The “Senior Citizen” urged Nigerians to re-elect Tinubu in 2027 general elections to enables him to consolidate on his achievements and moved the country to the next level.

“Looking on economic indexes in the country now compared to when Tinubu assumed office in 2023 one will see and notice serious improvement in the economy and numerous achievements.

“Many problems this administration inherited from the immediate past government have been solved and the economy being repositioned ,” he said.

The Professor of English and Literary Studies however, urged Mr President to enhance salary and allowances of civil servants who are the middle class to enable them to join others benefit from the stimulated and repositioned economy of the present administration.

“The purchasing power of civil servants in the country who are the middle class needed to be upgraded to enable them to take care of their family responsibilities with less financial difficulty and stress,” he said.

On the event he Chaired, Opata commended the organiser for honouring Gov Peter Mbah who in two years and some months have transformed Enugu State in terms of infrastructures, good governance as well as beefing up of security in Enugu state.

“Many governors in the country are now sending their people to Enugu to come and see how to replicate the well equipped Security Control Room of the Enugu State Government that has been adjudged as the best in the country.

“It terms of infrastructures every ward has benefited at least two projects since Mbah assumed office in 2023, I have no doubt Mbah will be relected for second tenure because of his good performance” he said.

Opata also said the honour to Asogwa is well deserved as the the LG Chairman had recorded many achievements including tarring of roads with asphalt with the council’s lean resources. since September last year he came on board as Nsukka LG Council Chairman.
