The Police in Lagos on Friday, dragged a 43- year-old man, Tajudeen Omowale, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding his company of N4.5 million.
The defendant, a student counselor, who resides at Bariga in Lagos, is standing trial on charges of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 10, at Goajo Educational Agency, in Allen Ave. Ikeja.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N4.5 million from a client of the agency, with a promise to help him secure an Australian visa.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant did not work on the visa adding tnat when the client came to complain at the office, it was discoverered that the money was not paid into the company’s account.
He said that the defendant claimed that he had given the money to another woman who is now at large.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. F Onamusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in likesum.
