The Concerned Civil Society Organisations in Rivers State has faulted the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi’s claims, linking the suspended Governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, to security threats in the state.
The AGF, while justifying the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu accused Fubara of allegedly influencing militants to sabotage oil pipelines in the state.
Reacting to the comment during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the coalition maintained that Rivers State remained peaceful under Fubara and requested that the AGF provide proof of his claims against the suspended governor.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Dr Christian Onyegbule, said, “We also take strong exception to the Attorney General of the Federation’s claims linking the governor to an alleged security threat in Rivers State.
“These accusations are nothing more than an orchestrated attempt to justify the unconstitutional declaration of emergency rule.
“We challenge the Attorney General to provide credible evidence of any genuine security threats.
“Rivers State has remained peaceful under the leadership of the governor, despite ongoing provocations.”
