Olufemi Soneye has formally stepped down from his position as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
In a farewell note released over the weekend, Soneye expressed appreciation to his team and professional partners for their support and dedication throughout his service.
He credited their efforts for building what he described as a “vibrant and effective communications presence” within NNPC Ltd.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you all for the unwavering support, professionalism, and genuine commitment you’ve shown in helping to shape and amplify the NNPC Ltd story,” Soneye wrote.
The former communications head cited personal and family responsibilities as the key reason for his decision to exit the role, stating that the move will allow him to devote more time to personal obligations that now require closer attention.
“This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence,” he noted.
Soneye described his time at NNPC Ltd as a “profound honour” and acknowledged the trust and opportunities extended to him by the company’s leadership during his tenure.
He further pledged to remain a steadfast ambassador of the company’s vision and objectives, even outside formal capacity.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me, the opportunities granted, and the incredible professionals both within and outside the organisation with whom I have worked,” he said. “I remain a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd wherever I go.”
He also used the opportunity to call on his colleagues in the media and communications ecosystem to continue with balanced and impactful reporting that supports the company’s strategic role in Nigeria’s energy sector.
At the time of reporting, NNPC Ltd has not disclosed who will succeed Soneye in the key communications leadership position. The role is critical to the company’s public affairs, investor relations, and stakeholder engagement framework, particularly as NNPC Ltd continues to undergo structural reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and expands its commercial operations both locally and internationally.
Soneye’s departure signals a significant leadership transition in one of NNPC Ltd’s core functional units. Industry stakeholders and observers will be watching closely for the announcement of a new appointee to sustain the company’s corporate messaging and communication strategy.
