After Shallipopi’s hit record, “Laho” earned a Burna Boy remix hours ago, the Grammy award winner has decided to shed more light on who owns the song.
The singer recently revealed that “Laho II,” which was released on April 25, 2025, was actually recorded before Shallipopi’s version.
According to Burna Boy, the only reason Shallipopi’s record is seen as the main version because his own version could not be cleared before the Benin singer dropped his solo work.
The “On The Low” crooner wrote that the one with his verse on it is actually the original version, and clearing it for release was simply impossible since it would’ve clashed with other major releases he was a part of.
The Odogwu of Afrobeats said Shalli’s version was the actual remix, and he only needs Nigerians and his fans to get that fact straight.
“So after all these years y’all still don’t know me enough? If this “Laho” was the remix then l’d go first lol.
This was actually the original version, It just couldn’t be cleared for the time he wanted to release cuz it clashed with other releases that had to do with me.
Na the remix Shalli first drop, this is the original. Shallipopi ft Burna boy LAHO 2 dropping today at 12am,” he wrote via his Instagram page.
“Laho II” was released after the commercial success of the first version, and the record is quickly becoming Afrobeats’ first global hit in a long while.
At Burna Boy’s recent Stade De France concert in Paris, the singer performed the remix in an unexpected performance with Shallipopi. They both performed the song again at Damini’s memorable Co-op Arena concert in Manchester, proving it is simply the jam of the moment.
With OluwaBurna adding his starpower to the “Laho” hype, many Nigerians have placed bets on his superstar status ensuring the record achieves the kind of global success Shallipopi cannot pull on his own. The possibility is also high that the song will feature as a bonus track on Burna Boy’s upcoming eighth album, “No Sign of Weakness.”
