Buhari’s declaration: Obasanjo should have been locked up somewhere – Senator Gaya
Former governor of Kano State and Senator representing Kano South Senatorial district, Kabir Gaya has condemned what he called Olusegun Obasanjo’s meddlesomeness in political affairs of the nation, saying he ought to.mind himself as a statesman.
Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja, on President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration, the lawmaker scored Mr. President high, while explaining that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is a serial complainant.
He said had Obasanjo’s administration been probed by Buhari, he would have been locked up somewhere.
“President Buhari’s interest to run is based on the interest of Nigerians. It is the pressure from the people for him to contest.
“Obasanjo has been a President of this country before and we respect him for that. He should not be examiner of Presidents in Nigeria.
“You will assess how much was he worth before he became a President in 1999. Am sure, he was in deficit and how much was he worth after leaving office in 2007?”
“Buhari has decided not to look at that. If we are going to do that, he would have been locked up somewhere”, the lawmaker insisted.
“I am saying as an elder statesman, let him mind his business. During Yar’adua’s time, he said, Yar’adua was this and that. During Jonathan’s tenure, he complained, during Buhari’s administration, he wrote letters of complaint. Why must he be against every serving president?” He queried.
Gaya explained that President Buhari had achieved peace and security in the Northeast, adding that he would consolidate on that in other parts of the country if he returned for the second term.
