Relatives of a British-Nigerian nursing student, Tamilore Odunsi, are mourning their loved one days before her graduation from Texas Woman’s University.
Houston police recently reported that Tamilore was stabbed to death at her home in Texas on the 26th of April, 2025, and an investigation is ongoing into the student’s death.
Odunsi’s family have since come out to say that Tami’s brutal murder has left everyone close to her heartbroken, and the unimaginable loss is still very difficult to understand.
According to her sister, Georgina, Tamilore was a beautiful soul who was full of light and kindness, and it is sad that her life was cut short right before the graduation that would’ve marked the start of her bright and promising future.
Revealing that the deceased was a devoted Christian who feared God and found lots of strength in her faith, she said that outside of her deep love for the church and school, Tamilore had immense love for kids and always dreamed of making a difference in young lives through healthcare.
She also announced that a GoFundMe page has been created in Tami’s name, and they are currently trying to raise funds for her body to be repatriated to the UK, as well as cover funeral and burial expenses.
Georgina added that the plan is to give their beloved daughter the dignified farewell she deserves by taking her body back to the UK for her to be laid to rest in the presence of her relatives and well-wishers.
“Our beloved sister, daughter, and friend was a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness.
Tragically, Tami was brutally murdered just days before she was set to graduate from university—an unimaginable loss at a moment that should have marked the beginning of a bright and promising future.
A devoted Christian, she was a God-fearing young woman who found strength and joy in her faith.
She had a deep love for her church community, where she was actively involved and always eager to serve others with humility and grace.
Ms Odunsi had moved from the UK to the US to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.
The 23-year-old had a special love for children and always dreamed of making a difference in young lives through her future work in healthcare
Outside of her studies, she brought joy to others through her love for creating content and expressing her vibrant personality,” the GoFundMe page read.
Tamilore was a regular TikTok user, with more than 30,000 followers on the platform, who constantly shared clips detailing the challenges that come with living as a Brit in Houston, Texas.
Houston Police recently disclosed that the deceased was found on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds, while a man was also discovered in a bedroom with at least one stab wound. Pronounced dead at the scene, the law enforcement agency has assured everyone concerned that an investigation is presently ongoing into the student’s death.
“At just 17, Tami moved alone from London to Houston, bravely adapting to a new country, a new culture, and a new academic system – all just months before the pandemic began.
She made a tremendous impact on our university community, and her legacy will continue to inspire us.
The university is offering counselling to students affected by Ms Odunsi’s death,” a Texas Woman’s University spokesperson added.
