BREAKING: Reece James Scores As Bournemouth Share Point With Chelsea At Stamford Bridge—-Chelsea rescued a late point at home to Bournemouth with captain Reece James scoring a 95th minute free-kick.
Cole Palmer opened the scoring early on at Stamford Bridge with a fantastic goal. Some brilliant work from Nicolas Jackson set his teammate up, who was as composed as you get to sit Mark Travers down before slotting the ball into the net.
However, the second-half saw a spirited fightback from the Cherries. Justin Kluivert converted from the penalty spot after Moises Caicedo brought down Antoine Semenyo. It was then Semenyo who scored what looked to be the winning goal later on.
However, in the 95th minute, James slotted home a beautiful free-kick into the bottom corner to rescue a point for the hosts at the Bridge.
So it’s five Premier League games without a win for Chelsea, while Bournemouth are a club-record nine undefeated.
The manner of their late equaliser will make this easier for Chelsea to stomach – and they’ve also avoided going level on points with the Cherries – but the second-half slide should be a cause for concern. So too all those missed chances in the first half, when they could have put the game to bed.
Bournemouth will be annoyed not to win, given James’ late goal, but their response to being torn apart in the opening period was admirable and when the dust has settled, this is a good point against a team with far loftier ambitions than them, at a time when they have plenty of injuries to contend with.
