BREAKING: Real Madrid Signs Andy Robertson To Replace Ferland Mendy?—Real Madrid have placed Scotland captain Andy Robertson on a list of potential summer reinforcements.

The outgoing European champions are scouring the market for a left-back in preparation for the departure of France international Ferland Mendy.

Signed from Lyon in a £42million deal, Mendy has missed much of the current campaign through injury. And, despite improvising with Eduardo Camavinga in recent months, the French international would prefer to return to his natural role in midfield.

Real have already been heavily linked with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. Under contract until 2025, however, the Bundesliga giants have slapped a not-for-sale label on the Canadian World Cup star and hope to extend his contract.

Key to Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, Robertson is under contract at Liverpool until 2026 and has shown no inclination to leave.

Capped 62 times for Scotland, the Glaswegian has won Champions League, European Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, English Premier League and FA Cup medals since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017.

The 29-year-old is rated in the world-class bracket and would command a fee well in excess of £40million.

Crucially, any Real Madrid bid would bring a guarantee of Champions League football next season. Liverpool face the likelihood of missing out on a place in the competition to Manchester United.

In addition to searching for a proven left-back, Real Madrid have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe.

Meanwhile, manager Carlo Ancelotti also believes Real will hold onto star Brazilian Vinicius Jr despite the player hinting he was open to leaving the club after two years of racist abuse.

The awful scenes in Sunday’s La Liga clash at Valencia, when the 22-year-old was subjected to vile taunts inside the Mestalla during Real’s 1-0 loss, have received worldwide condemnation and resulted in the Spanish authorities last night fining the hosts and closing one of their stands for five matches.

UEFA have been reluctant to take a stand on the matter despite calls to release a statement in support of the Real Madrid star.

Vinicius said he would not back down in his fight against racism even if he had to go far away to continue his struggle. But, asked if the 22-year-old was contemplating leaving Madrid, Ancelotti said: ‘I don’t think so. He loves Real Madrid.’
