Benue police capture five murder suspects, rescue ten kidnapped victims

Five cultists from Benue’s Otukpo Local Government Area were arrested for murdering and dismembering Moses Babatunde.

Julius Okoro, the state’s CP, told reporters this on Monday in Makurdi.

On Saturday, around 1.45 p.m., the police received a report of an unknown corpse with its internal organs removed at the Edikwu river bank.

A team of police investigated the area and found the lifeless body of Moses Babatunde, 29, who was last seen during a burial ritual with his pals.

Okoro said the accused were Idoko Omoru, Emmanuel Eze, Emmanuel Obande, Ameh Peter, and Sunday.

He added that an investigation into Babatunde’s death and organ removal was underway.

The CP also announced the rescue of a Federal Medical Centre doctor, Makurdi, kidnapped on May 13 at Judges Quarters.

“On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged them in a gun duel that killed one of them, while three of them were arrested and others escaped into a nearby bush with bullet wounds.”

Ten kidnapped people, including the doctor, were rescued.

One locally built AK47 rifle with 10 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two single-barrel rifles, one locally made barrette pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammo, and two military uniforms were found from the kidnappers’, he said.

The CP also reported that gunmen attacked a van carrying people to Enugu at Daudu in Guma LGA on Sunday when police personnel were patrolling the Makurdi-Lafia road.

He claimed that the police arrived quickly and forced the suspects to flee.

“They left a bag with camouflage uniforms and wooden guns.

“The victims have been released to continue their journey, and the investigation to apprehend the suspects is ongoing.

“I re-strategized and created a plan to eradicate crime in the state.

Okoro promised to ensure that Benue’s good people sleep with their eyes closed.
