Bassey Otu, originally born as Bassey Edet Otu is a Nigerian politician who represented the Cross River State district of Calabar Municipal/Odukpani in the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011.

He was elected Senator for Cross River South on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform in the April 2011 elections.

Later, in 2016, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and in 2019, he was elected as the party’s Cross River South Senatorial candidate.

Bassey Otu Early Life

Prince of Wales Bassey Edet Okon Otu was born on October 18, 1959, in Adiabo, Odukpani Local Government Area, Cross River State, to Late Eld. & Mrs Edet Okon Otu. He grew up in both Jos, Plateau State, where his father was assigned to a Church of Scotland mission, and Calabar, his hometown.

He graduated from the University of Calabar with a bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences. He worked in the banking and energy businesses before entering politics. He is also interested in farming. Otu graduated from the University of Calabar with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences.

Bassey Otu worked in the banking and energy businesses before entering politics. He is also interested in farming. In April 2003, Otu was elected to the House of Representatives as the representative for the Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency. In April 2007, he was re-elected.

In 2003, Bassey Edet Otu is a Nigerian politician who was elected to the Federal House of Representatives and also represented the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani seat in Cross River State from 2003 to 2011.

He was also the deputy chairman of the House Committee on National Population and the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Upstream).

He later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2016, and the party chose him to represent Cross River South in the Senate in the 2019 election.

He chaired the Senate Committee on Finance, then the Senate Committee on Banking and Other Financial Institutions; he also served on the Navy, Power, Petroleum, and Water Resources Committees.

He was named the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s consensus governorship candidate in Cross River in 2022.
