Where could this chap have possibly gotten the idea that it was a good and meritorious deed to slaughter infidels? Could it be from the Qur’an, which says “kill them wherever you find them” (2:191, 4:89, cf. 9:5)? Nah, couldn’t be from the Book of Peace.
“He wanted to “slaughter infidels”: IS terrorist (18) arrested on Austria’s border,” translated from “Er wollte “Ungläubige schlachten”: IS-Terrorist (18) an Österreichs Grenze verhaftet,” by Michael Koch, Exxpress, March 10, 2023 (thanks to Medforth):
According to the secret services, a young Moroccan (18) is said to have planned a terrorist attack with a fully automatic weapon. He wanted to “slaughter many infidels,” he said. Now he was arrested at the Austrian border near Suben (Upper Austria).
It is still unclear exactly what the Islamist, whom the security authorities had had on their radar since last summer, wanted in Austria. Possibly he wanted to get the weapon or the ammunition with which he planned his attack. A meeting with domestic IS supporters is not out of the question, as is an attempt to travel to Iraq via Vienna-Schwechat to get support for his plans there.
Most recently, the Moroccan lived in Frankfurt/Main, where the police searched his apartment in August. Connections to IS with images of executions and Islamist fighters were discovered on various storage media.
Researched the topic of incendiary and explosive devices on the Internet
The public prosecutor’s office accuses him of having planned an Islamist-motivated attack. According to the police, he wanted to injure or kill as many people as possible with a fully automatic firearm. In order to put his plan into action, he is said to have searched the Internet for construction instructions for explosive and incendiary devices as well as remote detonation mechanisms. He also stashed a long stabbing weapon in his parents’ garage.
