ASR Africa commissions ₦350m 500-seat capacity lecture theatre at Adamawa varsity

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has commissioned a newly completed 500-capacity lecture theatre at Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, alongside four boreholes provided for the institution.

The ₦350 million facility, executed under the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, is designed to deliver sustainable and impactful educational infrastructure aimed at closing infrastructure gaps across Nigerian universities and beyond.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Augustine Clement, commended ASR Africa and its Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu (CFR, CON), for the visionary donation.

“The university is thankful to ASR Africa and its Chairman for this laudable contribution. We will put the lecture theatre to immediate use for the benefit of our students and lecturers,” said Prof. Clement.

The Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, in his remarks, appreciated the university’s management for meeting the requirements for project selection.

“Today’s commissioning of this 500-seat lecture theatre is a testament to ASR Africa’s commitment to delivering on its promises to beneficiaries of its grants. It also reflects the passion of our Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for supporting education, health, and social development across Africa,” he stated.

Representing the Chairman, Dr. Idi Hong, Director of Government Relations at ASR Africa, expressed gratitude to the university for its cooperation throughout the project implementation.

“This project was dear to our Chairman’s heart. Despite the recent economic headwinds, he ensured its timely completion. On his behalf, I urge the university to continue in its pursuit of academic excellence for the good of the state and the nation,” Dr. Hong said.

The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who attended the ceremony alongside Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, lauded Abdul Samad Rabiu and ASR Africa for their continuous support toward educational advancement.

“This donation is commendable and worthy of emulation. The lecture theatre has come at a perfect time, providing students with a more conducive learning environment, improving access to potable water, and expanding the university’s capacity for lectures, conferences, and academic activities,” Governor Fintiri noted.

The project underscores ASR Africa’s enduring commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure, fostering academic excellence, and improving learning environments in tertiary institutions. It also aligns with the Initiative’s broader vision of delivering sustainable, long-term impact in education as part of its mission to uplift and restore the dignity of Africans through meaningful development.

During the university’s combined 15th, 16th, and 17th Convocation Ceremony, Abdul Samad Rabiu was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in recognition of his notable philanthropic contributions to education and national development. He was represented by Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, Director of Government Relations at BUA Group.

The ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme was established to bridge infrastructure gaps and support academic advancement across African universities.

To date, over 30 institutions in Nigeria have benefitted from the scheme, with grants ranging from ₦250 million to ₦2 billion, funding projects that embody impact, relevance, and sustainability.
