The Army Council has approved the promotion of 105 senior officers of the Nigerian Army to higher ranks, comprising 28 Brigadier Generals elevated to the rank of Major General and 77 Colonels promoted to Brigadier General.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele.
According to the statement, officers promoted to the rank of Major General include Brig Gen O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, Brig Gen S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Brig Gen R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director, Defence Operations, Brig Gen A.M. Umar, Commandant, Warrant Officer Academy, Brig Gen S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army), Brig Gen I.O. Bassey, Director, Nigerian Army Operations Centre and Brig Gen C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Others promoted are Brig Gen S.Y. Yakasai, Brig Gen W.L. Nzidee, Brig Gen S.A. Emmanuel, Brig Gen S.S. Tilawan, Brig Gen M.O. Agi and Brig Gen I.M. Abbas, while Brig Gen Z.A. Saidu was promoted posthumously.
The statement further listed Colonels Y. Ibrahim, N.N. Gambo, A. Saidu, A. Ali, I. Waziri, M.M. Sani, A.A. Alkali, A.O. Ndah, I.B. Sheriff, K.R. Apata, M.K. Akpuogwu, P.U. Nnaji, M.T. Nagudu, K.O. Bukoye, O. Adole, J.A. Ikagba, D.C. Ibeh, G.S. Chohwore, O.G. Okoye and Y.K. Audu among those promoted to Brigadier General.
Reacting to the promotions, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu (NAM), congratulated the officers and their families.
“You must intensify your professional drive and prove beyond doubt that your elevation is well deserved,” the COAS said.
He added: “You are to demonstrate exemplary leadership, inspire your subordinates and cultivate innovative solutions capable of delivering swift responses to the nation’s security challenges.”
Lieutenant Colonel Anele also quoted the COAS as reminding the officers that “their sacred oath of allegiance to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity must remain absolute, unwavering and beyond reproach.”
