2023 Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has said that opposition figures are working to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
He recently revealed that talks are ongoing to form a united opposition coalition led by key figures like Atiku nd Peter Obi.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics, Gbadebo shared that such a move is key because opposition parties cannot afford to divide their votes against Tinubu again.
According to him, adding Atiku’s votes to Peter Obi’s votes has a very good chance of kicking Tinubu out of office, and the opposition parties must seize the golden opportunity that has presented itself.
“The only way that we can move this country forward in terms of the opposition is to come together.
We cannot afford to divide our votes again.
Add Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s votes to His Excellency Peter Obi’s votes, they’ll completely take out the current sitting president,” he said.
He further noted that split votes have cost the opposition dearly in previous elections, stressing the importance of forming a formidable front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
He concluded by saying that discussions within the coalition are at an advanced stage, and the group would soon announce the political platform on which it intends to run.
“The conversation now is that we are working to put a coalition together.
We are going to hear announcements by tomorrow or next tomorrow, and everybody is coming together.
That’s our main focus. At that point, we can then authoritatively say this is the party that we are going to run on,” he added.
