The police in Enugu state are on the lookout for suspected assassins who reportedly murdered a businessman, James Innocent, at his home in Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka local government area, on Friday, October 1.

When the member representing Nsukka West Constituency in the Enugu House of Assembly, Hon Emma Ugwuerua, and the Administrator, Nsukka West Development Centre, Mr. Dominic Ajibo, paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s family, a family member recounted how late Innocent was assassinated, according to the Nation.

According to a family source, the accused assassins broke into Innocent’s home at 4 a.m. and took him out of his room following unsuccessful attempts to coax him out. When the assailants arrived at Innocent’s residence, they said that some criminals were stealing his provisions store, which was only a few meters away, but he refused to give in to their antics, according to the source.

“When he refused to open his door, his assailants shot at and shattered the glass window of his room, and used dynamite to force the iron door open.

They dragged him out of the room and shot him dead. After they had gruesomely murdered him, they released two gunshots again and went away,” the source said

In reaction, Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson of the Enugu State Police Command asserted the development saying that an incident of suspected assassination was been reported at the station.
